SONY PICTURES CLASSICS TO RELEASE WOODY ALLEN’S BLUE JASMINE ON 300 SCREENS THIS WEEKEND

New York, NY (December 10, 2013) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they will release again Woody Allen’s BLUE JASMINE on 300 screens nationwide this weekend. The film has already been named one of the Best Films of the Year by publications such as Entertainment Weekly and Rolling Stone. Cate Blanchett has garnered numerous accolades in the Best Actress category from critics’ groups around the country for her role as Jasmine, an elegant New York socialite who moves into her sister’s apartment in San Francisco after everything in her life falls to pieces.

The film has also received Independent Spirit Award nominations including Best Actress, Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Sally Hawkins. This is Allen’s 6th film with Sony Pictures Classics.

  • CULVER CITY, Calif., December 12, 2013 – In a move to forge a new legacy in the story of Peter Parker on screen, Sony Pictures Entertainment, in association with Marvel Entertainment, is developing several new projects in the Spider-Man franchise, with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard to collaborate on overseeing the developing story over several films that will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures, and Hannah Minghella, president of Production for the studio.

    The five writers, along with the two producers and Marc Webb, have formed a franchise brain trust to expand the universe for the brand and to develop a continuous tone and thread throughout the films. Under the deals, the studio announced that Kurtzman & Orci & Pinkner are writing the screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which the studio hopes Webb will return to direct; the film will go into production next fall for release on June 10, 2016. In addition, the team will build on the cinematic foundation laid by Webb, Arad, and Tolmach in the first two movies. They will expand the franchise as Kurtzman & Orci & Solomon will write the screenplay for Venom, which Kurtzman will direct; also, Goddard will write, with an eye to direct, The Sinister Six, focusing on the villains in the franchise.     Man Jit, who was previously Chief Executive Officer, Multi Screen Media Pvt. Ltd. SONY PICTURES CLASSICS ACQUIRES SUNDANCE HIT “WHIPLASH”

New York, NY (January 18, 2014) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all North American, Australian, New Zealand and German rights to Damien Chazelle’s feature WHIPLASH. The film, which played as the 2014 Sundance Film Festival’s opening night film, received rave reviews on Thursday.

Written by Chazelle, WHIPLASH stars Miles Teller (THE SPECTACULAR NOW) and J.K. Simmons (Sam Raimi’s SPIDER-MAN trilogy). A scene from the original feature script WHIPLASH was shot as a proof of concept for the feature, and screened at last year’s Sundance under the same title. It was awarded the Short Film Jury Prize for U.S. Fiction.

SONY PICTURES CLASSICS LANDS SUNDANCE SLEEPER HIT “LAND HO!”

Park City, Utah (January 22, 2014) – Sony Pictures Classics announced this morning that it has secured worldwide rights to Martha Stephens & Aaron Katz’s bawdy road trip comedy LAND HO!, which premiered on Sunday at the Sundance Film Festival. SPC plans to release the film nationwide in 2014.

The film is produced by Mynette Louie, Sara Murphy, and Christina Jennings, and executive produced by David Gordon Green, and Julie Parker Benello, Dan Cogan, Geralyn Dreyfous, and Wendy Ettinger of Gamechanger Films. LAND HO! is the first film to be financed by Gamechanger, which launched last fall to exclusively finance features directed and co-directed by women.

New York, NY (February 1, 2014) – Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all North American, German, UK, Scandinavian, Eastern European and Russian rights to Maya Forbes’ directorial debut INFINITELY POLAR BEAR. Also written by Forbes, the film stars Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana and premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival to great acclaim.

FORTITUDE INTERNATIONAL CONTINUES FOREIGN SALES IN BERLIN WITH UTA AND WME HANDLING DOMESTIC

Berlin, Germany (February 8, 2014) – Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has announced that they have taken all rights in international English-speaking territories, Latin America and other key European territories to the film THE END OF THE TOUR, which stars Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg and is directed by James Ponsoldt (THE SPECTACULAR NOW). The script was penned by playwright Donald Margulies, who adapted David Lipsky’s book Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip With David Foster Wallace.

Kilburn Media fully financed the film, with Mark Manuel and Ted O’Neal producing alongside David Kanter and Matt DeRoss for Anonymous Content and James Dahl of Modern Man Films. Anonymous Content’s Paul Green will executive produce the film, which is scheduled to start production shortly.

Fortitude International is handling international sales and introduced the project to buyers at the European Film Market. UTA and WME are handling domestic sales.

The deal was brokered by Michael Helfand, Jonathan Freedberg and Chan Phung of Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and by Nadine de Barros of Fortitude International.

THE END OF THE TOUR follows author David Foster Wallace (Segel), author of Infinite Jest who committed suicide in 2008, on a book tour at the start of his fame. Wallace is accompanied on the tour by Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky (Eisenberg).
